June 4 @ 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm
Join Dr. Shuʿayb Eric Winkel as he delves into Ibn Arabi’s monumental spiritual work.
Known as the Shaykh al-Akbar (‘greatest master’), Muḥammad ibn al-ʿArabī (560-638 / 1165-1240) is the transmitter of what is variously called in sacred lineages ‘the secret’, the inheritance, and the sealing of the Light of Muḥammad ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam. His vast encyclopaedia of spiritual knowledge, al-Futūḥāt al-Makkīyah, (The Openings Revealed in Makkah) is physical proof that he transmitted this inheritance successfully. Yet at 10,000 pages in the original Arabic, the work has remained largely inaccessible, with only partial commentaries and incomplete translations over the centuries. Now, thanks to the Futuhat project, a translation and commentary of the entirety of Ibn al-ʿArabī’s al-Futūḥāt al-Makkīyah will be accessible to English speakers for the first time.
